Jewelry Cleaning - Page Two

Peridot -  Peridot should be cleaned in lukewarm soap and water and scrub with a fine brush to remove and dirt and particulates. Allow to air dry and polish with cloth made for jewelry cleaning. Avoid using steam and ultrasonic cleaners. Keep away from excessive sources of heat.  Peridot does not tolerate heat changes well

Garnet - Garnet should be in cleaned in a mild soap and water solution and particulates removed with a soft brush. Avoid steam cleaning. Rinse in clean water and allow to air dry. You can also clean garnets with a sofy cloth made for jewelry cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning can be done on some varieties of garnet, but it is advised to seek advise from a certified gemologist before doing so.

Emerald - Emeralds should be cleaned in warm soapy water or a mild detergent and scrubbed lightly with a soft brush until clean.  Allow to air dry and polish with a cloth made for jewelry cleaning. It is advised not to used jewelry cleaners or to clean them in an ultrasonic tank.  Do not subject the gemstone to great changes in water temperature.

Topaz - Topaz should be cleaned in soapy lukewarm water and scrubbed gently with a soft brush to remove grime and particulates. Rinse topaz in water that is closet to the temperature that it was cleaned in and allow to air dry. Dry and polish with a cloth made for jewelry cleaning.  Avoid ultrasonic machines or steam cleaners which can cause topaz to split or break.

Citrine - The golden form of quartz is called Citrine.  Clean citrine in warm soapy water and scrub lightly with a soft brush to remove grime and particulates. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to air dry and polish with fine jewelry cloth.

Agate - Agate should be cleaned in warm soapy water and scrubbed lightly with a soft brush to remove grime and particulates. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to air dry and polish with fine jewelry cloth.

Jade - Jade should be cleaned with a soft cloth that is slightly damp. Dry and polish with a second soft cloth.  Do not soak jade in water and avoid using a jewelry steamer or ultrasonic baths.

Cleaning quartz should be done in warm soapy water and scrubbed lightly with a soft brush to remove grime and particulates. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to air dry and polish with fine jewelry cloth.  Avoid heat, ultrasonic cleaners and steamers which can cause the gemstone to crack or break.

Coral - Coral should be cleaned with a soft jewelers cloth. Clean gently and firmy and avoid contact with water. Ultrasonic cleaners, steamers and abrasive cleaners should be avoided.

Lapis Lazuli - Lapis Lazuli should cleaned lightly with a mild soap and water solution. Scrub gently with a find brush to remove grime and particulates and rinse quickly to avoid soaking of water into the rock. Dry immediately and polish with with a find jewelers cloth.  Avoid jewelry steamers or ultrasonic baths, cleaning agents and excessive heat.
